I have a Costco Amex too. You’re forgetting that the 3% cash back applies to gas at any gas station. I recently filled up at a Safeway and got 10 cents off using my Safeway card. I pulled right it and filled up. No need to idle a 8 MPG gas waster for 15 minutes.

It’s more than 10 cents savings.

If you have Costco’s American Express card, you save an additional 3%. I have their American Express card for businesses, which saves me 5% – more than 20 cents/gallon off the posted price.

I just filled up yesterday for less than $3.80/gallon at the Portland, OR Costco (posted price was $3.99/gallon) before returning to Seattle.

Costco is consistently the cheapest price in town, and when you add the AMEX discount, it is an amazing deal worth waiting a few minutes in line for.

Have you seen the lines to fill up gas at Costco? No joke – I witnessed a huge Yukon SUV sit there and idle for 15 minutes in line just to save what, maybe 10 cents a gallon.
